Assoc. Prof. Onnah P. Talle and Dr. Shelanee Theresa P. Ruales assessing one of the Grade 1 learners of Luinab Elementary School.
Recently, Project RISE successfully conducted the post-assessment of Grade 1 learners across all 10 RISE partner schools, marking the culmination of a year-long classroom implementation led by our dedicated RISE-trained Grade 1 teachers. A total of 270 learners were assessed during this activity, making it a significant undertaking in evaluating the project’s reach and impact.
Prior to the implementation phase, the project administered a pre-assessment to establish baseline data on learners’ early literacy skills. The post-assessment was then conducted to measure the progress made by students over the course of the school year, providing clear insights into the effectiveness of the instructional strategies, materials, and teacher training implemented under Project RISE.
During the assessment, learners were evaluated on essential early literacy skills, including book and print knowledge, letter name recognition, letter sounds, phoneme segmentation, and other foundational competencies critical for early grade learners. The results of these assessments offer a comprehensive view of learner development, highlighting both areas of improvement and aspects that may require further instructional support.
Project RISE extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this activity. Alongside the project team, pre-service teachers from the College of Education actively participated in administering the assessments, gaining valuable field experience while supporting the efficient implementation of the activity. Their involvement not only ensured the smooth conduct of the assessments but also provided meaningful experiential learning opportunities for future educators.
Overall, the findings from the post-assessment will serve as a vital basis for data-driven decision-making, guiding future interventions, refining instructional materials, and strengthening teacher support systems. This reinforces Project RISE’s commitment to improving literacy outcomes and ensuring sustained, meaningful impact across all partner schools.
