Prof. Wim listening attentively to a thesis presentation by a master's student
As part of his role as a visiting professor, Prof. Van Petegem held a research consultation for graduate students and faculty members of the College of Education. Following brief five-minute presentations, the participants discussed strategies for effectively presenting methodologies, results, and discussions in alignment with the fundamental principles of journal article writing.
One faculty member who is a doctoral student and two master's students attended the research consultation. Professor Van Petegem provided valuable feedback on Mr. Santillan’s doctoral dissertation, emphasizing the importance of understanding students' needs and preferences through his Design Thinking Process Framework.
Two master's students presented their research topics: "Exploring Variables that Affect Junior High School Students' Application of Home Economics Competencies in Everyday Living" and "Exploring the Impact of Chatbots on Student Engagement and Academic Performance in the Classroom." The professor advised these students to clearly define key terms, develop reliable metrics, and isolate the impact of their respective research areas while considering other relevant factors.
Throughout the consultation, the professor emphasized the importance of applying rigorous research methodology, including a straightforward research design, appropriate data collection methods, and robust data analysis techniques.
