Reading Proficiency Development of Learners
This includes a literature-based instructional approach, utilizing a Four-Pronged and Explicit Instruction strategy that fosters active reading and literacy development through engaging weekly activities. IREAD Fridays are dedicated to interactive reading, including buddy reading, group discussions, and journaling. Monthly thematic sessions explore genres like adventure, mystery, and biographies, while digital tools such as e-books and audiobooks cater to diverse learning styles. To broaden students' literacy experiences, activities like monthly book challenges, reading fairs, and Family Literacy Nights are organized, encouraging students to explore new books, participate in discussions, and engage with their families in reading activities.
Teacher Capacity Building
The objective of teacher capacity building is to equip teachers and parents with effective strategies to support reading at school and at home. Activities include professional development workshops for teachers on literacy instruction and reading interventions and peer learning opportunities for teachers to observe effective reading practices in other classrooms.
Other Stakeholders Engagements and Community Partnerships
The initiative involves forming a Reading Advisory Board with school representatives, community organizations, and local education stakeholders. It provides Parent Literacy Toolkits with resources to support reading at home and develops partnerships with local libraries, bookstores, and authors to access reading materials and events. Additionally, Community Reading Days are organized, where stakeholders read to students or lead storytelling sessions.
